PARIS – Total and its partners have discovered a second large gas condensate field on block 11B/12B in the Outeniqua basin, 175 km (109 mi) off the southern coast of South Africa.

The Luiperd-1X discovery well, drilled by the semisubmersible Deepsea Stavanger in 1,800 m (5,905 ft) of water, follows the play-opening Brulpadda find in early 2019.

Luiperd-1X, drilled to a TD of around 3,400 m (11,155 ft), penetrated 73 m (239 ft) of net gas condensate pay in what Total described as well-developed and good-quality lower Cretaceous reservoirs. The well did not encounter the water contact.

Following coring and logging, the well will be tested to assess the dynamic reservoir characteristics and deliverability.
