- Cainergy Group was awarded a contract by Port Harcourt Refinery Company to provide an Environmental Safety Management training workshop for its staff via Cainergy Training Services.
The Port Harcourt refinery is one of Africa’s largest crude oil exportation refineries, specializing primarily in the refining of crude oil into petroleum products. It is headquartered in Rivers State, southeastern Nigeria, in the Port Harcourt metropolitan area. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is generally defined as the science of the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of hazards arising in or from the workplace that could impair the health and well-being of workers, taking into account the possible impact on the surrounding communities and the general environment.
The scope of occupational safety and health has evolved gradually and continuously in response to social, political, technological and economic changes. In recent years, globalization of the world’s economies and its repercussions have been perceived as the greatest force for change in the world of work, and consequently in the scope of occupational safety and health, in both positive and negative ways.
The goal of this workshop is to train the staff of Port Harcourt Refinery Company (PHRC) on how to evaluate and manage the safety culture among employees. The improvement of safety is based not only on psychological and personal factors of the organization and environmental factors, but also on carefully investigating and identifying actual problems appropriate for problem-solving methodologies that will be implemented, which will eventually lead to a reduction in incident rates.
